EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A Missouri man is accused in the heroin death of a 33-year-old woman in southwestern Illinois.
Prosecutors in Madison County charged 36-year-old Curtis Buchanan of Jennings, Mo., on Thursday with drug-induced homicide and drug trafficking.
Authorities contend Buchanan delivered the heroin that Shannon Barton injected at her South Roxana home in August. Police say they found Barton face down in her bathtub after her 4-year-old daughter told a neighbor her mother and her boyfriend were dead.
Barton’s live-in boyfriend was found unconscious inside the home and has been charged with heroin possession. South Roxana police say he won’t be charged in Barton’s death.
Buchanan’s bail is set at $250,000.
Buchanan doesn’t have a listed home telephone number. Online court records do not show whether he has an attorney.
