Police: Women Carjacked Man, Used His Mustang For Crime Spree
MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOX) - A pair of Metro East women are accused of stealing a man’s sports car and using it to go on a crime spree.
35-year-old Melissa Burcks and 31-year-old Samantha Martin, both of Granite City, have been charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking.
Prosecutors say the two suspects and another, unidentified man bummed a ride with an acquaintance on December 29th, and one of them convinced him to let her drive his 2010 Ford Mustang.
In the area of Interstate 255 and Poag Rd. near SIU-Edwardsville, the three suspects forced the owner out and began to drive off.
The owner grabbed onto the fleeing car and was dragged a short distance, resulting in him being injured.
Investigators later determined that the stolen car was linked to a series of crimes in the Granite City area in the days following the carjacking, and counts of criminal damage to property were filed against both women.
Burcks was arrested and the stolen Mustang recovered.
Bond was set at $250,000 each, but Martin remains at large.
A search for the male suspect continues.
