CRESTWOOD, Mo. (KMOX) – Shortly before four o’clock this morning, a driver was cleaning off the parking lot of Sams Club at Big Bend when his sweeper truck, suddenly accelerated, picked up speed, hit a curb, slammed into a guard rail and careened over the rail, landing sideways down an embankment into a group of trees.
If the trees were not there to stop the vehicle, it could have been worse, the truck would have gone off a cliff and landed 20 to 30 feet below onto the west bound lanes of Interstate 44.
Crestwood and Mehlville fire rescue crews were called and it took them more than an hour to cut the driver from the wreckage.
The unidentified driver who works for a company called Galaxy in Valley Park was was taken to the hospital where he is being treated for minor injuries.
