CLAYTON (KMOX) – A three-alarm fire was extinguished by firefighters before dawn Thursday at The Wilson School in Clayton.
The fire alarm sounded at the school at about 2:30 a.m. Firefighters from several mid-county departments were called to the scene and the head of school, who lives next door, was awakened.
Smoke billowed, but few flames rose from the building on DeMun, which is surrounded by homes and shrouded by tall trees in a residential neighborhood.
Students at the school are on spring break this week, so administrators have several days to determine the extent of the damage and figure out how best to clean it up. The head of school told KMOX that he believed much of the damage would be water and smoke-related.
