BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) - The warm weather has a lot of people thinking about fresh produce and fruit, and that is definitely the case for the folks at Eckarts’ Belleville Farm who are also thinking early harvest. Angie Eckart suspects this is going to be a good year.
“We definitely think we’re running about three weeks earlier than normal, so our typical strawberry harvest is in the second week of May and I think this year it could be as early as we mid to late April.”
But Eckarts is ready for visitors, and is hoping for a big harvest after such a mild winter. She says though there have been more insects than in previous years, there haven’t been any problems with them so far.
Though Eckarts won’t have any new crops available this year, they’re preparing to have blueberries next season.
