Man Accused of Vandalizing Alton Church

ALTON, Ill. (KMOX) — An East Alton man is charged after police say he broke into a church and discharged several fire extinguishers.

Church administrators at the Greater Alton Church on Airline Drive called police after discovering the vandalism Sunday night.

Administrators say several fire extinguishers were discharged, fabric softener was poured on the floors, and two coffee thermoses were busted. As a result hundreds of chairs in the auditorium were covered with chemicals and damaged.

Jeffrey Priesmeyer was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with felony burglary and vandalism.

Authorities say police discovered evidence in Priesmeyer’s home linking him to the break-in.

Priesmeyer is currently at the Madison County Jail on a $40,000 bond.

Curious why he vandalized the church?
Another sad example of why churches are installing surveillance cameras to monitor property. http://www.urbansafetysolutions.com/
