Who Will be Missouri’s Historical Dog?
JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP/KMOX) – Here we go again; Missouri lawmakers are struggling with another critical issue.
The pressing question this time; what will be the official state historical dog? There are three choices, the nominees are: “Old Drum,” a dog that was dubbed the “best friend a man has” during a state Supreme Court case in 1870.
Then there’s “Jim the Wonder Dog,” a hunting dog that could supposedly predict future events.
And finally a Newfoundland named “Seaman,” renowned as the gentle giant that accompanied Lewis and Clark in their expedition across the Louisiana Purchase territory.
The House Committee on Tourism and Natural Resources scheduled a hearing Thursday on bills proposing one of the canines as Missouri’s “official state historical dog”.
