UPDATED: Franklin County Murder Suspect Arrested, Charged
UNION, Mo. (KMOX) – Michael C. Murphy has been charged with First Degree Murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend in Franklin County.
Murphy was taken into custody Friday morning following a two day long manhunt.
He’s being held in the Franklin County jail on $2 million bond.
The victim has been identified as 40 year old Stephanie Tauchert.

The manhunt for Franklin County murder suspect Michael Murphy is over. The Sheriff’s Department tells KMOX Murphy was found at about 11:30 am Friday in the Lake St. Clair area. He was taken into custody without incident.
Deputies had been scouring the area after Murphy’s pickup was found there, shortly after he allegedly murdered his girlfriend in a nearby home.
We’re told Murphy is being treated for a minor cut to a leg, apparently suffered while he was hiding in the heavily wooded area near the lake.
The search for murder suspect Michael Murphy in Franklin County was suspended today.
“The search at the side of Lake St. Clair didn’t produce anything. We had a dive team, we did a ground search and also had a canine, and we discontinued that” said Sheriff Gary Toelke.
Murphy allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend in Lake St. Clair on Wednesday afternoon.
The sheriff says they have made contact with Murphy’s brother who lives in the St. Louis area but there were no leads there.
Sheriff Toelke says the search for Murphy is no longer focused on one area and he’s being treated as a wanted fugitive .
The 40 year old woman’s name has yet to be released. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning. The sheriff says they should be able to release her name at that time.
