ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Congressman William Lacy Clay picked up a major endorsement Tuesday afternoon. Governor Jay Nixon has thrown his support behind Clay in his race against Russ Carnahan for the 1st Congressional District.
In a statement, Governor Nixon says, “For over 25 years, Lacy Clay has been a powerful voice for working families and a tireless advocate for the people of St. Louis. And throughout his long career in public service, I’ve considered Lacy a close personal friend. He’s the right man to continue serving the people of the 1st Congressional District and I fully support his re-election.”
Clay points out that during their time serving together in the Missouri State Senate, they worked side by side to protect and grow good jobs and strengthen Missouri families.
Governor Nixon’s powerful endorsement builds on the strong momentum gained from previously announced support for Congressman Clay’s re-election from St. Louis Mayor Francis G. Slay, St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley, the Missouri State AFL-CIO and the St. Louis Labor Council.
