ST. LOUIS, MO.-(KMOX)-Students at an area elementary school show a White House official their garden.
The USDA Action Deputy UnderSecretary Judy Canales paid a visit to the Normandy School District’s Barack Obama Elementary School today. Students and administrators took her on a tour of the schools garden complete with collard greens.
Last September, fifth graders at BOE constructed raised vegetable gardening beds as part of the “Eating from the Garden Program.” The initiative, sponsored by the University of Missouri Extension teaches students about gardening and nutrition…and encourages them to choose healthier fruits and vegetables while they develop green thumbs.
Barack Obama Elementary is a brand new school opening in August of last year.
