UPDATE: Manhunt Ends with Suspect Caught

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Police in St. Louis County caught the man who earlier allegedly tried to run down a police officer with his car in St. Peters.

The manhunt ended off Riverview Drive in North St. Louis County with the use of a canine.

The man, who was reportedly wanted on warrants, allegedly tried to hit an officer with his Jeep Liberty in St. Peters and then took off.  He took police from several departments on a high speed chase for more than a half hour.

The chase took several police cruisers across the river into Alton briefly.  The get-a-way Jeep then came back into Missouri over the Chain of Rocks Bridge,  sometimes at speeds reaching 100 miles an hour.

He got off on southbound Riverview Drive , blew through a number of red lights, dodging cars and semis.

The suspect finally drove up an embankment into a residential neighborhood along Riverview Drive and ran on foot.  He was caught about an hour later.

Police in St. Peter’s say they were trying to arrest the suspect when he sped off.   Initial reports indicated the man fired a shot at police.   Police now say an officer fired a shot at the fleeing suspect’s vehicle.
