ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - An investigation is underway after an inmate at the St. Louis City Workhouse on Hall Street was found dead in his cell.
In a written statement, St. Louis Public Safety Director Eddie Roth says 62-year-old Willie Woodberry was found unresponsive shortly after midnight Friday morning. Two nurses were immediately called in, with city paramedics arriving shortly after.
Roth has declined to do a taped interview with KMOX, instead saying in his written statement, “With the help of the police, medical examiner and corrections staff, we will nail down all of the facts contributing to this death.”
Willie Woodberry was being held on drug charges following his May 9th arrest.
He was transferred from the St. Louis Justice Center to the Hall Street facility, ten days prior to his death.
