FLORRISSANT, Mo. (KMOX) — Charges have been filed in connection with the shooting of Florissant Police Officer Mike Vernon.
Vernon was hit with several bullets early Monday while responding to a burglary call in the 1800 block of Banstead.
St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged 20 year-old Brian Lamont Cannon Jr. with Assault in the First Degree of a Law Enforcement Officer, Armed Criminal Action, and Burglary in the Second Degree.
Officer Vernon is being currently being treated at DePaul Hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
Officer Vernon has a spinal cord injury that his doctors are caring for. Officer Vernon is also being treated for additional injuries were one of the bullets penetrated his lungs. Officer Vernon is in high spirits, and he is determined to fight through his injuries and make a recovery.
Vernon is 33 and a seven-year veteran of the police force.
A press conference has been scheduled for 2 p.m. today.
