ST. LOUIS (AP) — A St. Louis interior designer has admitted overbilling several wealthy clients, including baseball player Scott Rolen, by more than $1 million.
Kay Ottinger, the 51-year-old owner of the firm Well Appointed Inc., pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to three counts of mail fraud. She admitted inflating invoices from real estate companies and creating fake invoices. Sentencing is Aug. 27.
Court records show that Ottinger overbilled Rolen by tens of thousands of dollars for work at his Florida home. Rolen is a third baseman who played for the Cardinals from 2002 through 2007. He is now with the Cincinnati Reds.
