ST. CHARLES, MO (KMOX)-Two months after his brother pleaded guilty to state and federal charges, the second of the two brothers who ran US Fidelis has admitted ripping off customers of the now bankrupt auto warranty sales firm.
Cory Atkinson pleaded guilty to three of the 15 state charges filed against him; insurance fraud, unlawful merchandising and stealing by deceit.
In entering his pleas, Atkinson made sure it was noted that he committed those crimes “in concert with his brother Darain and others.”
Darain pleaded guilty to state and federal charges in April and is to be sentenced in July.
Cory’s attorney Bill Margulus says Darain’s pleas had no role in Cory’s decision to reach a plea agreement, “He decided to accept responsibility for his actions in this case. It was a tough decision but he decided it was in the best interest of himself and his family to proceed in this fashion.”
The state is recommending Cory get four years in prison for the state counts. He’s also expected to plead guilty next week to federal charges.
