DETROIT, MI (KMOX) — The Cardinals announced Tuesday that they have activated outfielder/infielder Skip Schumaker from the 15-day disabled list and plan to have him in uniform for the team’s series opener in Detroit tonight.
Schumaker had been disabled since May 31 with a strained right hamstring. The Cardinals optioned pitcher Maikel Cleto to Memphis (AAA) following Sunday’s (June 17) game to make room for Schumaker’s return to the team’s 25-man roster.
Schumaker, who began the season on the 15-day D.L. with a strained right oblique, is batting .321 (26-for-81) in 29 games for the Cardinals this season. He had a season-best 8-game hitting streak at the time of his most recent injury.
Schumaker was 3-for-8 with a pair of doubles in three games played at Memphis (AAA) during his injury rehabilitation assignment.
