ST. LOUIS Mo. (KMOX) — St. Louis Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo has been named to the National Hockey League’s (NHL) second all-star team, becoming the first Blue to be named to an all-star team since Chris Pronger was named to the second all-star team in 2003-04.

Pietrangelo, 22, ranked fifth among all NHL defenseman this past season with a career-high 51 points (12 goals, 39 assists) in 81 games played. In addition, he led the NHL in shifts per game (32.9) and ranked 16th in time on ice per game (24:43). Pietrangelo became the youngest defenseman in Blues history to record consecutive seasons of 40-or-more points.

The King City, Ontario native was originally drafted by the Blues in the first round, fourth overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
