UPDATE: Excessive Heat Creates Illnesses

ST. LOUIS (KMOX)- The excessive heat is beginning to make people very ill.

According to the Department of Health, seven heat-related illness cases were reported by City of St. Louis hospitals for Saturday, June 30.

Four the case cases were City residents and the residence of the other three are currently unknown.

Ages ranged from 8 to 59.

Three female and four male cases were reported.

Now, the number of heat-related illnesses has reached 24 in the past three days.

Cool Down St. Louis is helping area seniors and the disabled with their air-conditioning and utilities; and area low-income households may also apply for utility assistance only, at 314-241-7668, or www.cooldownstlouis.org.

Also, the Health Department is encouraging residents to call the United Way at 1-800-427-4626 or at 211 from a land line if they need additional heat related or other assistance.
