BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP)- The mayor of Belleville has issued an executive order temporarily banning fireworks in the southwestern Illinois city.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Mayor Mark Eckert issued the ban at Monday’s City Council meeting due to concerns about fireworks causing accidental fires in such dry weather.
Eckert says the city didn’t want to take any chances.
Most fireworks are already illegal. Eckert’s order means sparklers and other fireworks that normally are allowed will likely be banned in the city for at least two weeks or until the dry conditions subside.
