ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) – Its no longer a question of when, but how soon Nathan Grellner will be given the boot as the Mayor of Valley Park. The embattled mayor is now facing the stigma of being an alleged meth addict.
The Post-Dispatch got its hands on discharge papers that show in early June Grellner spent three days in the chemical dependence unit of Center Point Hospital in Weldon Spring. Valley Park officials say it’s not a case of “exhaustion” as Grellner claimed but rather methamphetamine abuse.
Grellner checked himself in just two days after a run-in with Byrnes Mill police, oddly enough in Jefferson County, an area known for meth production, on charges of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest. He was taken to the Regional Medical Center in Jefferson County to be checked out but disappeared.
This is just the latest in a series of problems for the mayor; St. Louis County Police have an active investigation going on involving Grellner’s spending thousands of dollars of city funds for his personal use, like a shopping spree at Lowe’s and Home Depot, plus $21-hundred dollars on the city credit card at some bars and restaurants. Greller has given no indication that he plans to resign.
