ST LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX)–The Islamic holy month of Ramadan is now underway. It began last night at sunset.
For an entire month Muslims around the world fast from sun up to sun down. Abstaining not only from food and water but their spouses as well.
Fred Bodimer caught up with Faizen Syed, executive director of the St. Louis chapter of the council on American Islamic relations on the religious ritual.
Syed explained, “When one is fasting it is not just fasting to stay away from food and water but it is a way for them to get closer to their lord.”
Syed also says there are thousands of Muslims living in the St Louis area with a large community of Bosnian Muslims in south county.
