Local Cupcake Truck Will Compete On “Cupcake Wars”
ST. LOUIS (KMOX)- It all began with a hobby that led a local married couple to a competition show in L.A.
The Sweet Divine cupcakes will appear on the popular show, “Cupcake Wars”. The episode airs Sunday at 7p.m. on the Food Network channel.
Jason and Jenna Seibert are the owners of the cupcake truck, The Sweet Divine. Seibert says baking cupcakes began as a hobby for his wife, but she turned it into selling the treats from a food truck in March of 2011.
“The food truck craze just hit St. Louis, and I think we were the fifth ones to get our vending and roaming licenses,” he says. “We had a commissary out in Jefferson County, where we lived. Business took off a little bit with the truck, and we also specialized in cakes.”
One ironic night in February, Jenna woke up from a dream that she and her husband appeared on “Cupcake Wars”. This is when the applying process began.
“That night she stayed up, and went on their website,” Seibert says. “And lo and behold, they were accepting applications.”
After some time passed, the show called to share the news that they have been accepted.
Seibert says he and his wife are heading to L.A. Wednesday to compete with three other teams. They don’t know any specifics about the episode except that ‘Angry Birds’ will be the theme, but he does know the grand prize.
“The grand prize is 10,000 dollars, and then you get to showcase your cupcakes at the particular event,” he says. “To win would be incredible, so we’re definitely going to go out there and try to bring home a win for St. Louis.”
Even if they don’t win, Seibert says, the national exposure is going to be huge.
