HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KMOX) – There’s no word yet on the identity of the person who died in a midnight hour fire in a Hazelwood apartment building.

Robertson Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Dan Hoguet told KMOX that when firefighters got to the scene in the 5300 block of Villa Rosa Lane, heavy fire was coming from the building, and five people were trapped near a third floor window.

“Firefighters from our district and Hazelwood P.D. were able to get a ground ladder up to the third floor. They climbed the ladder and brought the people down through the window,” Hoguet said.

The building was heavily damaged. The fire’s cause is under investigation.
