One Vote Decides Missouri House Election

Allison Blood, KMOX News

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) – One vote.

That’s all it took to decide the victor of last night’s race for a Missouri House of Representatives seat. Stacy Newman is the incumbent, and she won 1,823 to 1,822 against challenger Susan Carlson.

Newman, a Democrat,  will have to wait two weeks for the results of the election to be verified, but she says she’s not worried.

“This is really evidence of the integrity of our electoral process,” she said. “every vote does count.”

The race was for the 87th District, which serves central St. Louis County. It’s especially important because there will be no challenge to the winner come November, so this decides the election.
