ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There’s talk of American Airlines merging with another carrier. American C.E.O. Tom Horton said told a British financial newspaper the airline may pursue a partner.
What could it mean for Lambert?
If, says Lambert Airport Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, it does happen, she doesn’t see any negatives in all the possible partner scenarios.
“If they were to merge with U.S. Airways or another carrier , the lack of duel cities is a good thing for us” said Hamm-Niebruegge. She added “There is no overlap of operations so that would lead you to believe that we would not see a downsizing.”
She does not foresee a loss of flights, but she also doesn’t see a great increase in flights. The American C.E.O. did call U.S. Airways an attractive merger partner under the proper circumstances. Hamm-Niebruegge says American has about 36 flights a day and U.S. Airways has 20.
