ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis-native Cardinal Timothy Dolan will give the benediction at the Republican National Convention on the night Mitt Romney accepts the presidential nomination.
The Cardinal’s spokesman says the appearance is not an endorsement, although Cardinal Dolan is outfront in trying to repeal President Obama’s mandated free employer-covered birth control coverage.
“When did the government get in the business of defining for us the extent of our ministry?” Dolan asked earlier this year.
Cardinal Dolan told both the Republican and Democratic parties that he would accept any invitation to offer a prayer at their conventions.
“I think politics, just like business, just like education, just like arts, just like culture, only benefits when religion, when morals, when faith has a place there,” Dolan said.
The New York Archdiocese is one of more than 40 Catholic groups, including the St. Louis Archdiocese, suing President Obama over his mandated employer-covered free birth control coverage.
