VALLEY PARK (KMOX) - Former Mayor Nathan Grellner is now officially charged in connection with a June police encounter, during which a Byrnes Mill police officer alleged that Grellner was drunk and tried to spit on him.
The six charges brought against Grellner by the Jefferson County prosecuting attorney include driving under the influence of both alcohol and drugs, assaulting an officer, unlawfully using drug paraphernalia, speeding and driving an unregistered vehicle.
It’s been a rough year for Grellner, who resigned as Valley Park Mayor on July 26th after skipping six months of board meetings and using the city credit card on home appliances and at a strip club. For weeks, he resisted calls to resign.
But months before his troubles, Grellner had no problem commenting when a Valley Park alderman was arrested for D.U.I.
“It’s rather shocking and rather embarrassing. Quite embarrassing,” he told KMOX on February 22nd. “It doesn’t matter who you are, what you do, where you’re from.. you always have to do the right thing.”
