Burroughs Graduate Found Dead in NYC Stairwell
NEW YORK (KMOX/AP) — She grew up in St. Louis, Carlisle Brigham, the daughter of New York City’s former budget director, James Brigham Jr. was found dead in a stairwell of a friend’s apartment building.
Brigham was discovered bleeding from a gash on her neck around 11 a.m. Monday by a tenant of the lower East Side Manhattan apartment.
Police spokesman Paul Browne said investigators believe Brigham died after possibly striking her chin in a fall down a flight of marble stairs.
An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
The New York Times says Brigham was seeking refuge from a failing marriage. She was married last year to Anthony Champalimaud, a real estate executive for an Asian hotel conglomerate. He was reportedly overseas at the time of her death.
Carlisle Brigham attended John Burroughs School from seventh through 12th grade, before attending the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va., to study art and art history. After college, docter said, Brigham had lived in New York, Chicago, Tokyo and then in New York again.
Brigham had worked in the paleontology section of the American Museum of Natural History where she had held various positions there including assisting with design dioramas.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports people who knew Brigham in high school described her as outgoing and talented. She was on the lacrosse team and sang in a school choir.
James Brigham Jr. is chairman of Warson Capital Partners, an investment bank in St. Louis.
