2 Shot When ATF Agents, Police Confront Would-Be Armed Robbers
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Three men are hospitalized and three others are in custody after a shooting involving ATF agents in south St. Louis Wednesday morning.
Authorities say the incident, which happened around 11:30 a.m. behind an apartment complex at Grand and Iron, north of Carondelet Park, followed a three-week investigation involving the ATF and St. Louis police.
ATF Special Agent In Charge in Kansas City, Marino Vidoli described the suspects as “dangerous men planning to do great harm.”
Vidoli says they were planning to pull off an armed robbery today, but instead were intercepted by ATF agents and officers, “The individuals failed to comply with the commands given to them by the arresting agents. They attempted to flee and use their vehicle to run over agents and officers. One ATF agent fired his weapon to protect his life and the lives of others around him.”
One wounded suspect is in critical and unstable condition, the other is in stable condition. A third suspect, who was not shot, was taken to a hospital for observation.
No ATF agents or police officers were injured.
Vidoli says agents recovered three firearms on the scene.
