TROY, Ill. (KMOX) – A week-long march from Fort Riley, Kan. to Troy, Ill. ended Saturday with the presentation of a Silver Star Medal to the family of a fallen service member.

Members of the 10th Air Support Operations Squadron, including some who were wounded in the January 2010 roadside bombing in Afghanistan that killed Senior Airman Bradley Smith, came to Smith’s hometown for the ceremony.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn was also there, and said the Silver Star is a testament to Smith’s bravery and loyalty to his unit and his nation.

The event coincided with the third-annual Bradley Smith Memorial Run, which has raised more than $20,000 in scholarship money for Triad High School graduates and children of service members.
