ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOX) - Looks like St. Charles County voters won’t have “Proposition Smoke Free” to consider in November.
After a lengthy closed session Saturday morning, county council chair Nancy Matheny made this announcement, “I believe the consensus now is that we will proceed with not having anything on the ballot in November.”
Members were scheduled to vote on placing a limited public smoking ban before voters that some on the council felt to be too weak, including District 1 council member Joe Cronin, “I’ve been working pretty diligently on this issue for a year and a half, and it’s not over. But, if we’re going to do it, we’re going to make sure we do it right. Trying to pass something that was watered-down wasn’t the right way to do it for this county.”
Council Chair Matheny also said Saturday the board will not pursue legal action to get its first choice for a smoking ban proposal on the ballot. She said it would be “too costly” and “distasteful.”
