Funeral Set for St. Louis Student Killed at University

MARYVILLE, Mo. (AP) – The funeral for a Northwest Missouri State University student who was fatally assaulted outside a Maryville bar is set for Monday.
The school says the service for Tomarken Smith will begin at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in St. Louis. The burial will be immediately afterward at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis.
Smith was a 21-year-old senior majoring in pre-professional studies and minoring in coaching. The university will collect cards and notes to send to the family through 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The Nodaway County prosecutor has filed charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault against 23-year-old Tony Overlin and 31-year-old Kevin Dell Mooney, both of Bethany.
The St. Joseph News-Press reported that Mooney pleaded not guilty Tuesday. Overlin has applied for a public defender.
