BALLWIN, MO. (KMOX) – The City of Ballwin will allow residents to hunt deer on private property. The ordinance passed at a meeting tonight.
Residents will be allowed to hunt only on land one-acre or larger, only with bow and arrow and they must be elevated.
The move is seen as a way to thin the herd. All but one member voted in favor of the measure.
Alderwoman Kathy Kerlagon says she got emails from several residents who asked her to vote no.
“First of all if you have a child thats outside and somebody has killed a deer or is in the process, it can be very upsetting to them.” said Kerlagon.
Also at the Ballwin meeting, The Suburban Bowhunters. They provide a free hunting service aimed at controlling the deer population in St. Louis County.
Founder Lou Salamone told KMOX the hunters keep some meat but most of it goes to food banks.
