CHICAGO (AP) - U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk is climbing the 103 floors of the Willis Tower, months after suffering a major stroke.
Officials with “Skyrise Chicago” say the Republican is taking part in a charity fundraiser for the group, Sunday. It’s his first appearance in public since suffering the stroke last January.
The 53-year-old has been releasing videos on his progress, including footage of his working with therapists and climbing stairs. He continues to undergo rehabilitation.
Doctors have said the stroke was expected to limit movement on his left side, though they expected him to make a full mental recovery.
Kirk has declined news media interviews since the stroke but his office continues to work on constituent issues.
In recent days he’s been helping fellow Republicans with endorsements and campaign videos.
