REPUBLIC, Mo. (AP) Child porn has been found on a southwest Missouri man’s computer after he tipped off law enforcement. Republic police began investigating after the man called Republic police to report the FBI had sent him a message about porn on his computer and demanded $200 to unlock it. The Springfield News-Leader (http://sgfnow.co/TKeYDr) reports that the message turned out to be a computer virus, not the FBI.
An affidavit says the man told police that in the past he had a problem with child porn but had stopped looking at it. He said he was afraid there was still child porn on his computer and that the computer virus might have shared it with his contacts.
Police offered to look at his computer, and the man brought it to police.
