SPRINGFIELD, IL (IRN) - The chief sponsor of a proposal to legalize medical marijuana in Illinois will spend his weekend working the phones.
State Rep. Lou Lang (D-Skokie) thought he had enough votes to pass the three-year pilot program legalizing medical marijuana this week. But there were a few too many lawmakers on the fence, so Lang decided not to call the bill for a vote, fearing it would fall short. He’ll be calling those lawmakers this weekend.
There’s also another holdup: reports that a Waukegan company has hired some lobbying muscle to ensure it is the only provider of medical marijuana if this proposal becomes law.
