ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX) - If you need cancer treatment and you live in southern Illinois or in south St. Louis County, you now have a new option.
Dr. Bruce Roth is director of medical oncology at the new Siteman Cancer Center-South County, opening today, and explains what the new facility has to offer.
“We’re opening a new, 36,000 square foot facility at Butler Hill Road and [Interstate] 55 that will provide access to surgical, specialists, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists for treatment of all sorts of malignancies,” he said.
Roth says that, in looking to expand Siteman’s services, officials found many cancer patients were making long treks.
“It turned out many of our patients were already coming from southern Illinois along the I-55 corridor and many had voiced concerns about coming downtown for treatment or the length of travel since many patients travel from a couple hours away for treatment,” he said. “So this will certainly provide improved access for them.”
