ST. LOUIS (KMOX)-A man is in custody after shooting another man he says was stealing copper from his property in Affton Friday night.

St. Louis Police say the 31-year-old property owner followed the alleged thief from Affton to South Broadway and Gasconade in St. Louis. When he tried to detain him a scuffle broke out and the property owner shot the 55-year-old suspect in the shoulder with a shotgun.

The shooting victim is in stable condition. Charges against the property owner are pending.
