SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) – A spate of residential fires has been keeping the American Red Cross busy in southwestern Missouri, so this was an especially bad time for someone to steal one of its trucks.
The Springfield News-Leader reports a Red Cross employee who’s on call around the clock was warming up the truck in his driveway around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday. He went indoors, heard a door slam and ran out in time to see the truck speed away.
The pickup is a silver, four-door 2010 Chevy Silverado with an extended cab and several Red Cross logos.
Red Cross officials say the truck is used to carry material to victims of house fires and other disasters.
The Red Cross on Tuesday reported helping more than 100 people in 11 counties following recent fires.
