ST. LOUIS (AP) – Arrest records show a 15-year-old burglary suspect who was killed by a St. Louis homeowner also was a suspected member of the so-called “Knockout Gang” that attacked a man.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that that Demetrius Murphy was among six juveniles charged with punching a 53-year-old man in October 2011. But the case fell apart after a 13-year-old witness failed to show up in court.

Michael Bryant is charged with second degree murder and attempted burglary.

Michael Bryant is charged with second degree murder and attempted burglary.

Police said Friday that Murphy was shot and killed while trying to break into a home with another teen, 17-year-old Michael Bryant III. Police say the homeowner was justified.

Bryant faces a second-degree murder charge because Murphy’s death occurred during the commission of a felony in which Bryant is a suspect.

No attorney is listed for Bryant in online court records.
