Mo. Reps. Roorda, Schieffer Launch Senate Bids

HANNIBAL, Mo. (AP) – Missouri state Reps. Jeff Roorda and Ed Schieffer, both Democrats, have announced plans to seek election to the state Senate in 2014.

Speaking Saturday at Missouri Democrat Days in Hannibal, the party’s annual convention, Roorda, D-Barnhart, said he will seek election to the 22nd Senate district, which is currently held by Ryan McKenna, D-Crystal City.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that ( ) Schieffer, D-Troy, will run for the 10th Senate district, currently held by Democratic Sen. Jolie Justus.

Both seats are being vacated due to term limits. The two largely rural districts to the south and west of St. Louis are held by Democrats. Roorda and Schieffer said they’d stress their anti-abortion and pro-gun views.
