Cooking Fire Almost Claims Collinsville Man’s Life

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) — A Collinsville man is alive today, thanks to the firefighters who pulled him from his burning, smoke-filled apartment late Tuesday night.

Collinsville Fire Captain Dusty Cottage along with two firefighters used a sledgehammer to get into the apartment at 223 North Seminary Street.

Cottage said they found the man on the floor and unconscious.

“When we got him out and he came to he was talking to us for a very little bit,” said Cottage.

The man had fallen asleep while cooking. Cottage said the fire was so hot the smoke detector had melted off the ceiling.
