EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) – Once Upon a Toy in Edwardsville was preparing to close for good but with a little help from their friends, the little toy store could become the little engine that could.
Owner Shawnta Ray says after their bank called their $450-thousand dollar loan last month, customers sprang into action. They created a Facebook page which quickly grew to 2,700 friends.
But what happened next got the bank’s attention.
“[Customers] created a page on crowdtilt that’s able to collect money for our stores,” said Ray.
As of Thursday morning that crowdtilt account has collected $48,784.
Ray says they have given themselves until Friday to collect the remaining money. But she is thankful and “floored” by what has happened so far.
Ray says they’ve never missed a payment on their load and they understand the bank, a smaller bank, is within its rights to call it.
