GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOX) — A man who spent several hours on the roof of his porch while negotiating with police, is in custody after surrendering late Wednesday morning.
Granite City Police Major Jeff Connor tells KMOX it started at about 4 a.m., when officers were called to the home in the 2200 block of Delmar.
They were met by a suicidal man who said he had weapons and explosives inside his home.
Connor says they eventually talked the man into going back inside and surrendering. He was treated for some minor self-inflicted injuries. No shots were fired.
Several people were evacuated from two nearby homes. They will be allowed to return after the bomb squad completes a sweep of the man’s home.
