Cardinal Players to Honor Stan Musial with Patch
Updated @ 9:30 a.m. 2/29
This patch will only be worn by Cardinal players. It will not be sold in stores, according to officials with the Cardinals.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — In honor of Stan the Man, St. Louis Cardinals players will wear a patch on their left sleeve this season.
The St. Louis Cardinals put this photo (featured left) out on twitter earlier this morning.
The patch is unusual for one honoring a deceased icon: There is no black, a nod to Musial’s always-sunny disposition. It features a red border and Musial’s number 6, in red, with his signature through the number.
The background of the patch is the color of the jersey gray for road games, white for home, and cream-colored when the Cardinals wear their new alternate jersey.
Also today is the last day to voice your opinion on which color hat Cardinal players will wear when their away. For the last two days fans were voting at cardinals.com/redvsblue. Now the twitter vote begins.
There are actually four options:
- #AllBlueSTL: Continue to wear blue STL caps during road games red STL caps at home
- #AllRedSTL: Wear red STL caps during both road and home games
- #BluevsRed: Wear blue STL caps on the road but only when playing against red teams
- #GetawayDays: Wear blue STL caps on road “getaway days” (the last game of each road series)
Each tweet will be counted as a single vote. Fans may tweet as often as they like, but only one hashtag per tweet will be tallied.
