UPDATE: Man Charged After Dragging Puppy Down Alton Sidewalk

ALTON, Ill. (KMOX) — A 3-month old Labrador who was dragged along a downtown Alton sidewalk last week is in good condition.

Workers from Hope Animals Rescues in Edwardsville, say Harper has already learned to sit and her foster home is working on positive reinforcement training while she is on her walks.

Harper’s owner 38-year-old Michael Thomas of Alton is charged with a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.

Authorities say witnesses saw him allegedly drag the puppy for several blocks last Saturday, prompting people to call police.

A spokesperson at Hope Animals Rescues told KMOX that Harper had abrasions on two legs and only weighted 15 pounds when they received her from Animal Control.

Thomas does not have a listed home telephone number, and online court records don’t show whether he has an attorney.
