Bomb-Making Materials Found at O’Fallon, Illinois Home

O’FALLON, Ill. (KMOX) – An O’Fallon Township High School student is in police custody after bomb-making materials were found at his home Wednesday.
O’Fallon Police Chief John Betten says the 15-year-old was arrested at the high school. He added others are being detained by police in connection with the case. None of the suspects have been identified.
FBI investigators and a bomb squad from the secretary of state’s office searched the suspect’s home.
FBI spokesman Brad Ware says it is too early into the investigation to reveal additional information.
As a precautionary measure, the Smiley campus was locked down for about 25 minutes and was thoroughly checked Wednesday afternoon.
OTHS posted a statement on their website.
The lockdown on the OTHS Smiley Campus has been lifted. Thank you all for your understanding and patience as the administration worked collaboratively with the law enforcement regarding an off-campus incident.
St. Clair County law enforcement discovered hazardous materials at the residence of an OTHS student. As a precautionary measure, the OTHS Smiley campus was thoroughly checked. There was no known threat made to any student or to OTHS, again, this was a precautionary security check.
The OTHS administration will always error on the side of caution as the safety of students and employees is our top priority.

No word on how the student came to the attention of the sheriff’s department or what the materials were.
