St. Louis-Based Company Recalls Frozen Meatballs
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Planning on fixing up some spaghetti this weekend? If so, you better check the meatballs:
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says P.E. & F. Inc. of St. Louis is recalling about 123 pounds of its Fazio’s Ready-To-Eat Meatballs because of possible bacterial contamination.
The meatballs are in 15 oz. packages. Each package has a lot code of “041114,” and bears the establishment number “EST. 13051” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced April 11, 2013, and sold at retail locations in the St. Louis area.
The health Department says they’re received no reports of anyone getting sick, but this particular form of listeria bacteria can lead to a potentially fatal disease.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, which is an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Symptoms can include high fever and severe headache.
