Local Baker Takes Top Honor in “Cupcake Wars” Competition
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — A St. Louis cupcake shop has been deemed the best cupcake maker in the country — at least, for this week.
Executive pastry chef Casey Schiller said he felt good as he went up against three other bakers during the contest to provide cupcakes for the South Beach Wine and Food Festival in Miami, Florida.
“We knew that is was right in our wheelhouse, my brother lives in Miami and we’re both chefs so we were the ones to beat!”
Using unusual ingredients that included “sugar-roasted pineapple” and “ghost chile salt”, Schiller and assistant Dana Holland whipped together the winning cupcakes.
Those winning recipes are now available at the shop at I-170 and Delmar.
It’s Jilly’s second win on the show — last year another local cupcake maker, Sweet Divine, also came away with the top prize on “Cupcake Wars”.
