ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Plans for this year’s Veiled Prophet Parade were revealed Wednesday morning during a news conference at St. Louis City Hall.
They contain a couple of changes from years past, starting with an earlier start time of 9:30 am on Thursday July 4th.
And Grand Marshal Bill Macon also announced that the route for this year’s parade will be different.
“We’re going to start the parade at 9::30 in the morning at 14th and Olive in front of the newly-restored Central Library,” he announced. “The parade is going to go east from there along Olive past the newly-renovated Park Pacific apartments, take a left on Tucker, and then go east on Washington.”
The parade will take another right turn onto 4th, and a final turn west onto Market stopping at Kiener Plaza, which will be renamed “Parade Town” for the day.
In addition, the parade will have two honorary Grand Marshals.
“We’re honored to have two of the remaining Tuskegee Airmen as our honorary Grand Marshals this year,” Macon said. “They are Colonel George Hardy and Colonel George M. Boyd. We think it’s a fitting tribute to these gentlemen who helped break down military racial barriers and it’s wonderful that they’ll be here to celebrate freedom and equality.”
To continue the theme the Red Tail squadron’s historic P-51 will fly above the riverfront during this year’s Fair St. Louis.
The VP Parade will step off at 9:30 am on the 4th of July with the theme “It’s About Time”.
